Dental Veneers are aesthetic restorations that cover partially the front teeth. They are made of highly aesthetic glass ceramics and are indicated for cosmetic reasons, to modify the shape, size, color, shade of front teeth. Because they only cover part of the tooth, that makes veneers a more conservative alternative to crowns when improving the appearance of teeth is the goal of treatment. A smile evaluation can be done at your regular checkup appointment.

Dental Crowns in Mission Viejo

Dental Crowns are restorations that cover completely a tooth. They are used when replacing very large metal fillings or very large cavities, also when erosion is present or severe signs of grinding or clenching.

Dental Crowns restore the shape and function of teeth, protecting week teeth from breaking under the chewing forces. Dr. Gruita prefers the strong, durable and also highly aesthetic Zirconia Crowns to other metal or metal fused to porcelain crowns.

At the appointment for the crown the tooth is numbed, then a portion of the tooth is removed, an impression is taken and a temporary crown is made and cemented on the tooth. At the second appointment, the crown made by the master ceramist is tried, fitted and cemented on the tooth using a resin type cement.

Tooth Colored Fillings or Composite fillings

Tooth Colored Filling are restorative materials that replace the part of tooth that is removed due to decay. Tooth colored fillings are used to treat cavities present on front or back teeth and to build back front teeth after fractures. At the appointment for fillings the area to be worked on is numbed by local anesthetic, the tooth is isolated, the cavity is prepared and then filled using 3M ESPE Filtek Supreme Plus, the material of choice of Dr. Gruita.

Based on the size of the cavity and age of the patient cavity liners such as 3M ESPE Vitrebond are used to protect the deep layers of tooth from irritation therefore preventing teeth sensitivity after the procedure.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are used when replacing leaking, broken metal(amalgam) fillings on back teeth or when treating cavities on teeth that have been worn down by grinding or clenching forces. They cover partially teeth and are made of strong and durable pressed glass ceramics. At the first appointment for an inlay or onlay the tooth or teeth to be restored are numbed, then the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken and a temporary restoration is placed on the tooth. The second appointment is when the inlay/onlay is tried, fitted and bonded to the tooth.

Tooth bonding is used in several different ways but is probably most useful for repairing chipped teeth. Bonding materials (high-density, space-age plastics called composite resin) and porcelain–are more natural in color and can be designed to perfectly match the surrounding teeth making it difficult to discern there ever was a broken tooth. Transitional bonding is used for anything from a mock-up to a full-mouth rehabilitation. It’s called transitional because it allows the patient to transition into more permanent dentistry as he or she can afford, or as the treatment sequence demands, and it allows the dentist time to work out any bite related and esthetic issues. Transitional bonding is an important tool in the skill set of an accomplished cosmetic dentist in Mission Viejo.
